Paris and a Costume Party in a French Chateau

June 11th, 2009

Yet again, I am falling behind on my blog posts and trying to catch up.  Things have been very busy here between finishing the move into the new apartment (finally done with the trips to IKEA!) and my parents visiting.  Enough excuses, onto the post:

Over Memorial Day weekend, I took the TGV to Paris to meet Emily and my parents.  While Memorial Day isn’t celebrated in Europe, the Thursday before was the holiday of Ascension so it was still a long weekend here.  I left on Thursday afternoon and came back on the same train as my parents on the following Tuesday.  My parents are traveling around Europe for a month, using Zürich as their home base.  They spent a few days in Brugges, Belgium before meeting Emily and I in Paris. While my parents were busy seeing all of the tourist sites of Paris, we had other plans.  We were there to go to the 30th birthday party of Claire Delorme, one of Emily’s friends and former co-worker.  The party was at a chateau in the French countryside in a small town named Chaumont-en-Vixen, a little over an hour outside of Paris by train.

Oh and did I mention it was a costume party??  People went all out with the costumes from Marge Simpson to the Super Mario Brothers to many Tinkerbelles (the theme was to dress like your childhood hero).  We waited until the last possible minute to buy our costumes and went to a costume shop in Paris the morning before the party with the rest of the procrastinators.  Emily went as Snow White, and I was a sailor.  My costume was a part of the Village People with some of our friends from Zürich.  The fake handlebar mustache really made my costume.  I think the highlight of the night was when the DJ played YMCA and us Village People took over the dance floor.

The party was a lot of fun and quite an experience!  Happy birthday Claire!
