Last Minute Travel Plans

Emily and I had been planning on spending next week in Italy. We had it all planned out – Florence, Pisa, Cinque Terre, Milan. The only problem was we hadn’t actually booked anything yet. When I went to the train station this morning, I was told that all the trains to Florence (and basically anywhere) had been booked for about a month since it is a holiday weekend. So much for that plan.
After checking out a few options, we found a relatively cheap, last-minute flight to Prague and went for it. We leave in two days. Emily is coming for a long weekend, while I am going for 12 days to get some obligatory days outside of Switzerland until my visa situation is resolved. I have never been to Prague but Emily was there last year for work so she will be my tour guide. Prague is a city that has been on my list for a long time. I’m very excited to explore the city, check out the architecture, and try some Absinthe.
In other travel news, we also just planned a trip back to the US. As part of Emily’s relocation package, we get one trip back to San Francisco to tie up any loose ends from the move. Like Prague, I am going to stay longer than Emily to get some more days out of the country. I will be in the US for about 2.5 weeks – split between SF, Seattle, and possibly somewhere else (undecided). Although it doesn’t feel like we have been gone very long, it will be good to see some friends and family and pick up a few things that are either not available or expensive here in Switzerland. I have to admit – I will be looking forward to some good burritos and Indian food when I am back in SF!
